On Saturday 2 December, Lighthouse held its inaugural Rally for Youth social tennis challenge event at Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club (RSYLTC). Teams of four registered to compete in a 3-hour match of Team Doubles to raise vital funds for Lighthouse.
While Melbourne’s weather caused its own challenges on the day with incessant rain, tennis legend and former tennis player, Mark Philippoussis was able to challenge some guests in an ‘Hour of Power’ in the afternoon. Everyone had a lot of fun joining in on our raffle, a silent auction and listening listen to our Founder, Susan Barton AM speak about our cause. Alicia Loxley, Nine Network Reporter MC’ed and we were joined by Mark and Silvana Philippoussis who also supported our fundraising efforts.
Despite the weather prohibiting the 3-hour matches from being played, the local tennis community’s generosity and community spirit certainly wasn’t dampened as almost $40k was raised for Lighthouse- an incredible effort that will help us continue to provide therapeutic care and homes for our young people. Thanks to RSYLTC and the tennis community for helping end youth homelessness, together.
