Lighthouse Foundation celebrated National NAIDOC Week during 8 – 14 July 2024 to acknowledge the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
On Friday 12 July, Lighthouse team members came together at our Youth Resource Hub to celebrate and enjoy a morning tea, while hearing from our RAP group Chair on the importance of NAIDOC week. After an Acknowledgement of Country and tasting some delicious snacks from Indigenous-owned companies, we headed to the march in Melbourne’s CBD.
We made a banner in our Youth Resource Hub which included handprints and a symbol of fire in line with this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.’ We held this banner high as we proudly marched as a group to show our support.
We will remain a strong ally and continue learning about First Nations cultures — the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
