After hearing Artist and Lighthouse young person Jesh speak recently Melbourne United Basketball Club CEO Vince Crivelli and Head Coach Dean Vickerman, were inspired to commission Jesh to create a painting for their team.
They recognised that Jesh’s personal resilience had huge synergies with the team’s philosophy and asked him to create a painting to hang in their home locker room.
As part of the National Basketball League the team travel around the country where they have begun to recognise the impact youth homelessness has on our society. When Jesh’s artwork was unveiled last week in front of Vince, Dean, teammates and Lighthouse staff it received glowing appraisals.
Jesh’s talented art piece is an emotive self-portrait painted in acrylic and charcoal. And together with his talented Carer Dave, Jesh created this special quote to accompany his artwork sharing his creative process and objectives.
“My artistic intention behind creating this artwork was to depict my struggle, my focus and my journey through daily life. The black and white demonstrates my thinking on most days. The focus is on what I want to achieve, but it is the persistence that will get me there and better myself. One word stood out in the brief… resilience. Only through resilience and perseverance can we achieve our goals.”
Thank you for this fantastic opportunity Melbourne United – we look forward to building a relationship to further support our programs and young people into the future.
