Matchbox 'Take Back' Program with Lighthouse Foundation
For as long as we can remember, the little ones in our care have cherished playing with cars. It’s not uncommon to walk into one of our homes, with the loungeroom floor turned into a race track and seeing the kids play for hours, revving and zooming around their home-made courses.
So, when we were approached by toy giant Mattel to partner with their Matchbox 'Take Back' Program, we were thrilled to be a part of such a meaningful and sustainable campaign.
Mattel has announced its commitment to make all Matchbox die-cast cars, playsets and packaging with 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastics. Alongside this commitment, Matchbox has released a first-of-its-kind carbon neutral Matchbox Telsa Roadster die-cast vehicle.
For nearly 70 years, Matchbox has been inspiring kids to unleash their imaginations and explore the world around them through play, an inspiration we at Lighthouse also create and support whole-heartedly – and as the world changes, the Mattel brand is changing with it, to create a sustainable future for the next generation.
The Matchbox 'Take Back' Program is a beautiful opportunity to give back to those who need while also taking care of the environment. Partnering with Target, the initiative will encourage children around Australia to drop off old Matchbox cars to one of 10 Target locations. They’ll be able to donate their Matchbox cars to be collected, professionally cleaned and sorted and given a new ‘race track’, being donated to our young ones at Lighthouse.

You can find the donation bins with our wonderful Lighthouse logo in the following Target stores. For a small but mighty grassroots charity like ours, this partnership is a huge opportunity for people across Australia to learn about who we are, what we do and how they can get involved in changing the futures of homeless kids in Australia.
We are over the moon to be on-board with Mattel & Target for this campaign, and our kids are already excited to create new race-tracks with new cars!
