On Sunday 3 September on a beautiful beginning-of-spring day, our Young Women’s Freedom Program Therapeutic Home held a ‘Wellness Day’, focussed on health, wellness and self-care. The Young People and members of their care team took advantage of the great weather and set up outdoors.
There was a lot of healthy food for guests to enjoy. The young people made beautiful fresh juices – the guava, pineapple and kiwi fruit flavours were a massive hit. Another young person made delicious vegan protein balls, there was also fresh fruit, veggie sticks, dips and homemade seed crackers.
In the afternoon, one of the home’s committee members led the group in a gentle introductory yoga and meditation session which was a lovely way to unwind. There was also an activity where the carers from the home explored together with the young people what they do for themselves when they need a positive lift. Everyone was asked to write what they do for self-care on a whiteboard, which we’ve since moved to our Youth Resource Hub for the wider Lighthouse team to contribute to as well. Sharing self-care experiences was a great way to connect and feel inspired.
Community Days like this are a great way for our young people, carers, committee members and wider team to come together and connect while having a fun time.
