As friends and supporters of Lighthouse Foundation, you know that the health and safety of our children, young people and staff will always be our first priority.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves around us, the kids in our care are still among some of the most vulnerable in our community due to their significant childhood trauma. It can be very challenging for our Lighthouse young people, with situations like this bringing up the mental and physical scars from their past. In fact, is it a challenging time for us all right now.
We understand that there is so much fear among us, but it is your unwavering support that will help us see through this together. Though we face many challenges ahead we want you to know that
your donations are our children’s lifelines. Your continued generosity is what will ensure that our Carers and Psychologists can be there to support them, even in the darkest hours.
I know that if we try, we can use this time of great uncertainty to open up our hearts more than ever before to those more vulnerable. Lighthouse Foundation only exists because of quiet everyday heroes like yourselves who for over the past 30 years have decided that no matter what happens, a child should never be homeless or alone in this world.
Just this past week, one of our Carers found a young person hiding food under their bed in fear that they would ‘have to go hungry again’. As many of us walk around and take in images the bare supermarket shelves, we’re reminded of our young people. These are the kids who have been hoarding food long before COVID-19, who would pile up their plates at shelters – unsure of where their next meal would come from.
In this time of heightened anxiety, challenging behaviours are often exacerbated and our priority right now is to ensure we can continue to be there for them when they need us most.
Over the next few weeks we will be sharing regular updates with you, but right now, we are doing everything in our power to keep our community safe. We encourage you to connect with us on our Lighthouse social media channels to see our latest news. We’ll be sharing some of the positive, heartwarming stories from our Lighthouse community. You can view our Instagram and Facebook here.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for always being there for us and know that we’re here to support you and your family too in any way that we can.
We’re all in this together.
