Lighthouse Foundation supports peak body Homelessness Australia and the Open Letter (dated 18/1/17) to Minister for Social Services The Hon Scott Morrison MP regarding clarification on the renewal of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) to provide long-term solutions to support our homeless.
Lighthouse is predominantly privately funded and does not currently receive NPAH funding, however we do work directly with homeless young people as a frontline service, providing long-term care for homeless young people, children and babies.
We also support the Council to Homeless Persons Open Letter and joint media statement (dated 18/1/17) from collective CEO’s in our sector and agree that moving homeless people off of our streets, out-of-sight, is not the solution to this growing problem.
“Lighthouse Foundation is calling for a focus on early-intervention and programs designed to provide long-term therapeutic care to break the cycle of homelessness. This is what is needed to help homeless people rebuild their lives.” said Simon Benjamin, Lighthouse Foundation CEO.
We are encouraged by the continued advocacy for the rights of our homeless and support the call for action. “Victoria must do better than punishing its most vulnerable citizens for being poor and homeless. We can invest in long-term housing with supports.” says Joint media statement from Melbourne City Mission, Launch Housing, The Salvation Army, Council to Homeless Persons, VincentCare and Justice Connect Homeless Law (dated 20/1/17).
For over 25 years Lighthouse Foundation has delivered a proven model to assist over 800 young people transform their lives, with 8 out of 10 young people not returning to homelessness again.
